The Space Coast Jazz Society is delighted to have sought after jazz vocalist, arranger, and educator Michelle Mailhot return to its stage at the Rockledge Country Club on Sunday afternoon, April 8, 2018 at 2pm. Doors open at 1pm.
Michelle will be accompanied by a top-notch group of musicians: Chris Rottmayer on piano, Jon Warcholak on bass and Jeremy Katakenic on drums. She has performed extensively with all three musicians, especially Chris Rottmayer who is also involved with the Dr. Phillips Center Jazz Orchestra.
Michelle promises a 95 per cent Jazz concert that encourages dancing. As a versatile vocalist though, (for example, she sings with a blue grass group at EPCOT’s Canada stage), she may delve selectively into other genres but always with a jazzy flair.
Michelle is known for a string of solo credits — including the sold out cabaret show “A Tribute to Johnny Mercer” at the Mad Cow Theatre in Orlando, an off Broadway Drama Desk Award winning show in New York City, her lively, jazzy CD “Happy Madness” and regular performances at Walt Disney World and supper clubs, cabarets, and festivals around the country and the world.
Michelle has been singing her entire life and professionally for the last 25 years, sharing the stage with jazz greats like Mel Tormé, Max Roach, Sheila Jordan, Jon Faddis, Sandy Patti, Dr. Billy Taylor and Liza Minelli. In addition to her own CD, she can be heard on Bobby McFerrin’s “Vocabularies” and several Disney produced recordings. Michelle has also been a session singer for radio and television commercials. Locally, she has sung for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and is currently the featured vocalist with the Dr. Phillips Center Jazz Orchestra.
Michelle’s teaching credentials are equally as lengthy and impressive. She has earned Bachelor and Master’s degrees and currently provides jazz instruction at Rollins and Valencia Colleges. She has taught at the Phil Mattson Choral Workshops, the Disney Sings Workshops and Steve Zegree Vocal Jazz Camps. Her work as a clinician and judge has taken her from choral festivals such as Showstoppers, Orlando Fest to similar events in Japan and Singapore. Her vocal arrangements are performed by high school, college and professional ensembles around the world.
This is not a concert to be missed. Get ready for a real treat and some “happy madness” (the title of her cd). The concert starts at 2:00 PM and ends at 4:30. Come early to get a good seat! You can enjoy food from the kitchen and drinks from the bar starting at 1:00.
All concerts are open to the public and general admission is paid at the door: $10 for members of the Jazz Society and the Rockledge Country Club, $15 for non-members and guests, and free for students. Food and beverages are available for an additional cost. The Rockledge Country Club is located at 1591 S. Fiske Blvd., Rockledge, FL 32955.
